When you installed OpenOffice.org, you ticked some checkboxes that was originally unticked, at least if you installed a recent version. If you had left those checkboxes unticked, this would never had happened. That makes me wonder: Why did you tick those checkboxes when you didn't want Word documents to be opened with OpenOffice.org?
