Hi,

I would say this is an X11 problem. X11 is your windowing system, and you do
not have the required version, and the message you receive is 'no suitible
windowing system found.' 
In terms of updating I'm not sure what to suggest but I notice you metion
that you have X11 version 1.0 and the update site says that you must have
1.1 or higher to use that update.
Could you check in Software Update to make sure there are no updates that
have been hidden. 
There may be a problem with your software update; you say you have all the
latest patches, but if you are running OSX 10.4.8 then this is not true as
10.4.9 was released some time ago
