Others, who do not need those abilities, whether because they dont use
them,
or use other progs to do the same thing, will say that adding those has
turned OO to bloatware.

We've discussed this matter previously and not surprisingly opinions
differed widely. My view is that OO.o should not attempt to further widen
its mandate, but that it can and should provide links - or at least
addresses - from its first page to programmes like Thunderbird or GAIM (now
Pidgin !), which are known to be compatible with OO.o and
platform-independent. In this way, the present limited mandate could be
maintained at the same time that those who are considering converting from
Office can be made aware of good alternative PIMs, email clients, etc, to
those offered by Microsoft....
