OpenOffice.org comes standard (preinstalled) on almost every Linux distro, so you won't have any difficulties there.

But quite often the vesion packed in the distribution is not the lates, so you
are better off not installing this, but downloading and installing the
version from OO.org

Thanks, Ron - that's good advice and true of many distros.

FWIW, one of the things that I like about PCLinuxOS is that the repositories are kept quite up to date. The new version is normally available within a day or two of the update.

This isn't true of most distros, though.
