One problem I can envisage with including the Unicode input method that John
Jason and I have described for Ubuntu as a default in OOo is that it then
would interfere with the procedure that is used in the various
Windowsversions, i e, Alt + (0 added to) the
decimal representation of the glyph. given the fact that the first-named
method works on other Ubuntu applications than OOo, I suggest that this is
an OS, rather than a applications matter. What, for example, do you get on a
notepad in your Dapper distribution, Hagar, if you perform Ctrl + Shift + U,
type 2190, and then hit the space bar ? In Feisty, I get ←, just as I do
when following the procedure in Gmail, as I have just done....

I checked my configuration and I think the problem comes from the fact
that I install with the official OOo packages (RPMs converted by alien).

To have a clean install, I removed my 2.2 version (all packages in
Synaptic) then installed the 2.2.1 RC2. I checked in Synaptic what was
exactly installed and :
- I've openoffice.org-gnome-integration
- I don't have openoffice.org-gnome nor openoffice.org-gtk.
=> The Unicode method input integration may be handled by the Ubuntu
packages (I guess it's a distro related feature).

I'm reluctant to both upgrade to Feisty and keep the Ubuntu version of
OOo. So I'll put up with it. In fact, I quite never use the Unicode input.
But I'd like to see it in the default packages of OOo.
