I've just tried to replicate and cannot. Both saving as word XML 2003 and
excel XML 2003 format works ok for me - no error message reported.
What OS are you using for which this error message occurs? Is it a network
that your trying to save to?

I am using Windows XP SP2 w/ all available patches. The original
spreadsheet was on a network share, but I saved it to the ods on my
desktop and that is the one I'm trying to convert now. I tried again
today after the computer was rebooted, but I get the same error. Now
that I have the file on my hard disk, I'll probably just boot into
Ubuntu and make the conversion there. Hopefully it won't have any
problems w/ saving an existing Office 03 xml file. Thanks.
