I have set up a filter in TBird that labels all moderated posts so that
the color of the message in the message list pane immediately tells me
that the message I'm going to reply to is a moderated one. Then I copy
the poster's address and put him to into cc. There is no way to make
TBird add the "From:" address to the list of recipients. Surely that's
aligned with the recommended practice as explained by Brian but in case
of mailing lists that munge the Reply-To it came in handy.

That's fine, Mathias, but it doesn't work on newsgroup messages (gmane).
Labelling by filters isn't available as far as I can see.
That's one of the reasons why I prefer direct subscription over
newsgroups.
It seems to be there for me.
