I do not know what machines you are using. I just opened OO spreadsheets and
it took 2 to 3 seconds to open it on a blank spreadsheet. I then opened a
small (less than a screenfull) spreadsheet and it was so fast I could not
time it with my wristwatch.

I then tried the file in question and it took about 1.5 minutes. It is
completely compute-limited, taking 100% of one of my two hyperthreaded Xeon
processors, which prevents any hyperthreading of it (the other processor
runs 100% hyperthreaded).

I do not know how bad this is for a 43,000 or so row table.
Long before I get a spreadsheet that big, I would stick in into an SQL
database. I guess India has even more bureaucracy than we do in USA. My tax
return never exceeded 50 pages, and that happened only once. Now it is
almost always half that or less.
