I was working on a business on some business cards for a

Color pictures do show its color, it is just the text.
Word is such a problem to use, but I have to use it if OOo will

Did you try printing, or saving to a .pdf file? The colors may actually
be there. This may just be a problem with the Accessibility options
using automatic color for all text display, which you don't want. In
en-US locale: Tools | Options | OpenOffice.org | Accessibility | Options
for high contrast appearance | Use automatic font color for screen display.
