OOis fantastic. I have managed to get all my other sppreadsheets
converted easily.

VBA macros will not run in OOo.
Have a look at your "Tools-Options-Load/Save VBA Properties" settings.
I haven't run into this problem, but I share very few excel files.
I wonder what would happen if you turned off the "Load Basic code to edit"?
Someone else may have better ideas.
If the file is not confidential you could send it to me off list and I
will have a try at converting to ODF.
