Thank you for the explanations, suggestions, help etc.
Earlier files were saved as .sxc when using OO 1.0 and later ones as .ods.
I have to use .xls format for some work I share with others but I do
not save anything OO into .xls.
In Tools-Options-General-Years (two digits) is set as default at 1930.
While trying to explore the problem have changed this to 2000 and other
dates to note the differences. Have also noted changes by using the options
under Tools-Options-OpenOffice.org Calc- Calculate-Date and checked the
three options there to note the differences made.
My files with dates are so mixed up now since my first trials at just
altering
the year digits thinking that would fix the problem before I realized that
the
days were also changed that I will not rely on them further. At least the
detail beside the date will remain in chronological order even though the
date may not be exact.
For some files that I want to rely on dates in future, I think that the
best I can do
after making entries is to save the file as PDF and after more work on the
file
save again as PDF and delete the previous PDF file. That seems an odd thing
to
do but is all I can think of at the moment. It is not easy to find
something
referred to in a file if you start looking in the wrong place (read as
date).
     Thanks again for the help.
