It is absurd and lazy to post replies at the top of a list thread

I know people that venomously disagree. Although I have seen lists, organizations, and employers with specific standards for reply (some top, some bottom), I am not aware of any such thing for this list.

Top posting used to be the preferred method for almost everyone. If you are reading a series of messages, bottom posting is just annoying. MS Outlook and GMail both rigorously encourage top posting. Insisting on bottom posting for an outlook user is almost anathema.

There is discussion of the different posting formats here (and it is an interesting and easy read):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top-posting#Top-posting

You will notice that RFC1855 does not bother to address this issue:

http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc1855

It appears that on average, "geeks" are more inclined toward bottom posting and "non-geeks" are more inclined towards top posting. What does that say about usage of Outlook?

If you feel that the list should adopt such a standard, put one in place. You are sufficiently respected for both your involvement and demeanor that you may achieve traction on this. It would eliminate a class of problems on this particular list.
