The alternative is that you can ask someone else on the list to convert
for you. Not a good situation if the doc contains any sensitive info,
but if not I'm sure that some here could/can assist.

Then again, others suggested that you contact the sender and request
that he/she simply save as a standard .doc file and resend to you. Did
you make this request, *and if so what was the result*?

Afterall, the sender will experience problems sending the same .docx
to normal MS Office users that do not have MSO 2007 and/or MSO 2007
conversion patches or software. For the time being wouldn't it just be
better just to have the sender realise that what they are sending isn't
compatible with anyone but MSO 2007 users?

Apparently you don't mind jumping through hoops to accomodate the
.docx file sender (you are on day 2 of trying to figure out how to read
this senders file and are also including time spent by this lists
users)... isn't your (and the list users') time a little more valuable
than spending 2 days trying to figure out how to decode the file for you?

It's already a known fact that .docx is not currently handled in OOo. So
contact the sender, ask them to resend to you in a valid format, & stop
wasting your, and the lists, time figuring out the file.
