If you followed the thread from the beginning, I did make that request
and also explained to them why it is an issue- in particular the person
who sent me the document networks with many people including people in
developing countries who cannot afford to be on the "upgrade"
treadmill. I also recommended OOo, giving him the web-site address. I
also suggested a hierarchy of preferred formats for files, including
rtf and pdf.

The person involved has not yet re-sent the document but he will
eventually.

It's called a learning experience.Besides, I did not spend 2 whole days
sitting in front of my computer trying to figure the problem out. I
have a life.

Actually it's not wasting anybody's time as I knew what I needed to do.
I tried at least two web based conversion tools which failed.

I also tried a tool produced by Novell as a plug-in for their version
of OOo but which does not seem always to work in other flavours of
linux... at least it didn't work for me.

My question at the beginning was a reasonable question because you just
don't know what macros or plug-ins may be available, possibly produced
by a list member and not yet published on the net.

My only other "waste" of list member's time was a request for help with
Regular Expressions.

And since other OOo users are going to have to deal with MS's stupid
file formats, no it isn't a waste of time documenting some approaches
to dealing with it.
