When you installed OpenOffice, there was a panel where you were given the option making it the default application for MS Office files. It is very easy to changes these file associations and you don't have to delete OpenOffice to do it. Changing file associations Right click on file icon Select Open With > Choose Program... Check "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" and choose the desired application.
