Dear Sun, I sent you the following help request on October 1, without getting any acknowledgement from you. We still have the same problem and we need some solutions urgently. Can we have some feedback on this? Thank you and best regards,

Until a few months ago we had a very slow LAN, so I don't know if the problem I'll describe was there also with previous versions. Now, with our new GigaBit LAN, we found a problem we weren't aware of with OpenOffice. The problem is the same with Versions 2.2. and 2.3, which we have on different computers. The computers are both configured as follows: XP Pro, Vers. 2002, SP02, on Pentium IV 3.00 GHz with 1.25 GB RAM, built by Acer. THE PROBLEM: When we open an OpenOffice file (this behaviour is the same with any file compatible with OO) by clicking twice on its name in Windows Explorer, on the first two openings of a single file type (for example the first 2 times we open a Calc file, or a Writer file, or a Doc file) it takes several tens of seconds (30 to 40 seconds on average) to open. After 2 times, a third file of the same kind (but not the same file as before!) opens immediately (within 1 second or 2). If we try to open a different kind of file, the situation repeats: first 2 times very slow, after that very quick. This happens only on the LAN (if we click Windows Explorer on the local HD the file opens immediately (1-2 sec)) and only if we open files through Windows Explorer. In fact if we open OO and from there we use the Open File function, the speed is very high, both locally and on the LAN. All these tests were done with OO resident in memory. The dimension of the files doesn't influence this problem. We tested with files from 7 KB to 1000 KB with identical results. Of course, after the third time we open one kind of file, if we open a very big file we just see the outside of the OO window and it takes a few seconds to open the file, but when the problem happens we cannot see any reaction for several tens of seconds. Then OO starts to open, and then it loads the file. Any other file (for example PDF) opened on the LAN is quick, with no dalays. I hope I was able to describe this strange problem and I look forward to receive some suggestions on that. Thank you and best regards, Giuseppe Bottacin -------------------------------------------- EXIT ENGINEERING S.R.L. +39-049-980-2323 Prima Strada, 31 30032 Fiesso d'Artico (VE) ITALY
