There are a couple of things to keep in mind.

1) The support on this mail list is provided by volunteers, who are
simply other users who wish to help others with OpenOffice.  The vast
majority of us have no other connection with OpenOffice.  Some,
including myself, have provided computer support at some point in our
careers.

2) As you indicated in your original note, the problem only occurs when
accessing files over your network and not when the files are on the
local hard drive.  You also said the problem occurs only when you use
Windows Explorer and not when you open a file from within OpenOffice.
This indicates that OpenOffice is likely working fine and the issue is
probably with Windows or the network.  You mentioned it happens with
several computers.  Are the files stored on a common server or are you
using peer sharing?

There simply isn't enough information to provide help beyond the above. 
You might want to do some local analysis about what's happening on the
various computers to see what's happening.  You may need to use a
network analyser, such as Wireshark, to see where the delays are. 
Please bear in mind that we are unpaid volunteers and we simply don't
have the resources to resolve problems such as this.  You may need to
get some paid competent support on site.
