tx for the reply bud. nohup did not do it for me even though I ran it with the '&'.
nohup /opt/corp/projects/metrics/bin/linn/OpenOffice1.1.5/soffice -headless "-accept=socket,port=8100;urp" -env:UserInstallation=file:///home/methct/metrics/user5 & when I logout of the server, openoffice dies.
