That must be a Ubuntu-specific problem because the OpenOffice spell checking
works just fine on this Fedora 7 computer.
You may want to raise this issue with the Ubuntu people.
I too have OOo2.3 on Fedora 7, with no problems with spell checker. I
have gotten real proficient in right clicking.
