Thank you Harold for your reply, I have solved the problem of spell check in Vista that many have experienced. It is a factory setting issue with Microsoft and nothing to do with MS Word.
Solution: In the e-mail program. Without opening up an e-mail, Click the following path: Tools>Options>Spelling Under the Language section find and apply any language but English, then go back and apply English. Whoa, problem solved. Never used office before and tried the word processor for the first time-Wonderful. I have a few questions but will experiment a bit and tinker. As a Hard core MS Office user since the MS Office came out on all Home and Business PC's I've had, I think this is very nice and the price is right. Appear MS has an edge of it's Power Point for sure. I have already recommend this to my friends and family after a single test ride on Word. Prior to Vista, I had been using the Mozilla Office Suite. I'm not a big Thunderbird fan and think they lots their best Programmers and frankly the software needs a lot more work. Thunderbird needs to get more resources and make a lot of the promised improvements before I will come back. But I do have firefox loaded on my computer. Waiting for the Mozilla Office Suite to become Vista compatible. I find the Mail program on Vista outlook as being overall a solid program with probably the best functionality so far of similar programs. I runs and looks like the Outlook 2003. It appears Mozilla needs another major upgrade to not only make it Vista compatible, but add a lot more versatility and improve it's functionality. I actually prefer Mozilla's Mail Suite browser over Firefox, With respect to Google, not into its tool bars- a little too big brother. But as long as it has the best search engine, I will use it's search engine. Looking for a Vista version of Abobe Flash player. This is yet another example of Microsoft's "lock in" policy. However, there are separate spell checkers available for, for example, Outlook Express. I use ABCSpell from Isota which is not freeware. There are freeware programs available though; Google is your friend. Alternatively, and I think better, switch to a freeware mail program like Thunderbird from Mozilla, the same people who gave us Firefox. That has its own spell checker and can use the same dictionary as OpenOffice. -- Harold Fuchs London, England Please reply *only* to [email protected] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ No virus found in this incoming message.
