You don't say which Operating System you are using so I'll assume Windows
XP.

You don't say which version of OpenOffice (OO) so I'll assume the latest -
2.3

To quote the Help about Fontwork:
======== begin quote ==========
Fontwork For Graphical Text Art

You can use Fontwork to create graphical text art objects.
To create a Fontwork object

On the Drawing toolbar, click the Fontwork Gallery icon.

On the Fontwork Gallery dialog, select a Fontwork style and click OK.

The Fontwork object is inserted into your document.

***** Double-click the object to enter text edit mode.

Replace the default Fontwork text with your own text.

Press Esc to exit text edit mode. ***** [my asterisks]

To edit a Fontwork object

Click the Fontwork object.

The Fontwork toolbar is displayed. If you do not see the Fontwork toolbar,
choose View - Toolbars - Fontwork.

Click an icon in the Fontwork toolbar.

The following icons are available:

Fontwork Gallery - adds another Fontwork object

Fontwork Shape - edits the shape

Fontwork Same Letter Heights - changes the height of characters

Fontwork Alignment - aligns the text

Fontwork Character Spacing - changes the character spacing and kerning
To edit more Fontwork attributes

Click the Fontwork object to select it.

Select the properties from the Drawing Object Properties toolbar. You can
change the line width, line color, fill color, fill style, and more.

I've put asterisks round the key piece; you need to *double click* in the
box, enter the text you require and then press ESC.

On a slightly different topic, why did you *buy* OpenOffice? It's completely
free. That's gratis. No cost. For any purpose whatsoever. Go to
www.openoffice.org and press the big green "Get OpenOffice.org" button. The
support is also free, via this mail list.

Now, you could simply have paid for a CD - a few dollars - to avoid
downloading it over a slow/unreliable/expensive internet connection. That's
OK. People selling it on that basis are providing a valuable service. Or you
could have bought it with extra functionality. There are a few companies
(very few) offering additional templates and/or macros for example. That's
OK too. But if you paid for vanilla OpenOffice, which is something that you
could have had for free, then I suggest you complain to the vendor. Unless,
of course, the vendor promised support and/or training. In which case please
ask them for help. We are *not* vendors. You did *not* buy it from us.
