Sadly not. This is apparently a known bug in OpenOffice 2.3. The
problem occurs when you try to use the Fontwork Shape button:
everything disappears. The problem is described at:
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=81609 . As you can
see, it has been fixed, so the next version of OpenOffice should work
properly in this respect. This is confirmed at:
http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?listName=users&msgNo=163812 .
Your options seem to be:
o Avoid Fontwork.
o Remove OpenOffice 2.3 and install an earlier version.
o Wait for the next version of OpenOffice.
