If you save as the ISO/IEC 26300 ODF format (which you really should do if
you ask me), which has file extensions ods, odt and so on, the Microsoft
Office user needs a plugin to open your files, since their Office suite
otherwise fails to open a document that follows an international standard.

As someone already said, just export the file to PDF using OpenOffice.org.
Other ways are possible, but why bother?
