Just found an interesting bit on the time out error on launching
OOo. Seems there is a script involved. I managed to get
a look at it, but am not familiar with the scripting. Seems someone
who is, could just add a delay before a check to avoid
the time out error.
Well, i'll bite: what's the name and/or location of the script?

Don't quite know. I managed to click on something when the time out
error dialog was up and it opened a script editor.
I took a quick look at the script before closing the windows and
getting OOo running as I was at work and had work to
do. But someone on the OOo Mac list would probably know what it is and
perhaps even help with putting the delay in
to eliminate the error until the new and improved Apple blessed
version of X11 is available as an update.
