I used a different method to get my OO spreadsheets into landscape format. I clicked on File->Page Preview, and up top next to "close preview" is "format page". This pops up a menu, and on the "page" tab is a radio button for portrait or landscape. Selecting this once for each file seems to "stick" very well.

Steven Hunlow wrote and email(see below) he seemed somewhat savey of the differences between OO and Excel. All I wish to know is how to I get OO to print in a landscape orientation. It will not "take" this orientation, and will always print in portrait format. Can you help? Marra

On the menu bar click "Format", then click "Page" on the menu, then click the "Page" tab. You should be able to choose between portrait and landscape format for OOo Calc.
