Fifty something million other OOo (OpenOffice.org) users are not experiencing the same problem as you and do not find it "very unreliable". I am guessing that by the term "kicks me to the desktop", you mean the OOo component (eg Writer) closes without any warning or error messages being displayed. Do you get a an option to recover the document next time you start OOo? What you are describing sounds as if there may be an issue with your Java installation. Did you download the version of OOo which included the JRE (Java Runtime Environment) or do you already have Java installed on your system. What steps have you taken to resolve this problem? If you are interested in resolving this temporary glitch in your OOo installation, please write back to this list with answers these questions and I am sure one or more of the hundreds of users here can help you.
