OpenOffice it asks you if you want to make it the default software for
handling documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Just say "yes". Job

If you did not check that box while installing, then how to you make OO the
default post-installation?
As I have posted here many times:
Changing file associations
Right click on file icon
Select Open With > Choose Program...
Check "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" and
choose the desired application.
