I don't want to rain on your parade but why not simply use one of the free
pseudo-printers to "print" your Writer/Calc/whatever document to a PDF file?

For Windows there's PDFCreator available under GPL from
http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/

For Linux there's CUPS-PDF, also under GPL, at
http://linux.softpedia.com/get/Printing/CUPS-PDF-10505.shtml

I'm sure any well known search engine will find others for e.g. Mac OS,
FreeBSD etc.

These programs install an additional "printer" on your system which can be
used by any software on the system capable of printing.
