Hi,
I'd like to use Calc as a simple database. I've had a go with OOo.Base
and couldn't do what I wanted there and wondered if it was possible
with Calc. My data is very simple - it started out as a simple
spreadsheet anyway. What I want to do is have several sheets which
present filtered versions of the main sheet. I believe that Filters
can achieve the end result, but I'd like to just switch between the
'full' view and a 'filtered' view by clicking on the Sheet tabs.
Any changes to the 'full' sheet should be reflected in the 'filtered'
sheet(s).
Is this sort of thing possible?

The data is just a list of membership details.
One example would be to have a sheet showing all UK members,
and another showing non-UK members.
There is a column in the data which contgains the country if non-UK
and is blank for UK members.

Many thanks
Bill
Hi Bill,

You can get help the document presented, but what I am interested in how
as you say you could not do this in Base?

As this is my curiosity here if you would rather not go into it that is
fine but the ability to form subsets of data like this is one of the
core abilities of a query.

A second consideration is that at some point I will be passing on
the membership list to someone else who may well be using MS Office.
I am concerned that it may not be easy to do the transfer. I have
transferred spreadsheets both ways with relative ease. I have my doubts
about Base-Access transfers. The database started life using Access.
I tried opening the Access file with OOo and it didn't like it.

Bill
Yup - that right there is enough of a reason, for the moment - the MS Access support is not really gonna cut it for interoperability.

There are few things in the pipeline that would change how this kind of work flow could be handled, beyond what I mentioned before - but nothing in your time frame unfortunately.

Drew
