The problem is that it would run rather slowly, giving a very bad first impression. Plus, most of the people I wish to introduce OOo to have no idea what Linux is. Worse, they would have to reboot their computer. And then they'd have to figure out how to launch a program when there is no Start menu and no icon for OOo on the desktop. Mostly these are Windows users. And mostly they have desktop computers at home where I won't be present to explain how to do things. I do recall reading threads here about running OOo from a USB flash drive. I never paid attention at the time. Maybe that is the solution, or it can be adapted to a CD. I envision a CD with an autorun feature. They insert the CD, a window pops up asking if they want to run OOo from the CD for a trial, they click OK, and off they go. The best part is that if such CDs were available we could produce them and hand them out to all kinds of people. When the university is in session I bet I could hand one out at least every other day. I could also see that there are stacks of them at the university computer help desks. OOo could sell the CDs with nice artwork for a buck or so apiece on the OOo website. This would provide revenue for OOo and a good tool for people like me to spread the word. I can't imagine that it would be too tough to create the CDs. I'd order a lot of them, and I'm sure a lot of other loyal users who don't mind spending a bit for the good of OOo would like to do so as well. You can currently order the regular install CD from the OOo web site: http://distribution.openoffice.org/cdrom/index.html#cdrom But these are not live CDs. Also, I do not know if the CDs are produced by OOo or by the distributors from images supplied by OOo. Anyway, what do I know? All I know for sure is that I lost a sale the other day. I gave a Windows OOo CD to a fellow student. When it popped up it wanted to install OOo and she panicked. She told me she was afraid it would mess up her computer, so she hit the eject button on her CD drive. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
