Yes provided two conditions are met: 1. When you install OpenOffice you tell it to make itself the "default program" for handling MS Office documents *and* 2. Your university is not using the latest version of MS Office called Office 2007. OpenOffice cannot yet handle documents in the new Microsoft format. A new release of OpenOffice that can handle these documents is due soon. Watch this space Will I be able to save > documents that I create in Open Office to the University network and then > open them from computers at the University? Yes. You can configure OpenOffice to *always* save in MS Office format or you can choose on a document by document basis. However, note the remarks above re Office 2007. If your university demands documents in this format then you are out of luck. For a wealth of free documentation about OpenOffice, go to http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals/oooauthors2/index.html Also, on that page, scroll down to the "Migration Guide" section and read the documentation there. It covers exactly the questions you are asking. Second, can I un-install Open Office if I decide I would rather use a > different software package? Yes. Just like you would uninstall any other software Thank you for yor time. It's a pleasure. Feel free to come back here with questions; it's free, just like the software :-) -Emily > -- Harold Fuchs London, England Please reply *only* to [email protected]
