Perversely, this may be because Writer is too good for your purposes! It will accept more of the formatting of the original document from your paste than other applications may do - and then try to replicate it. If you paste into a more basic application, you will see less of the formatting and probably fewer problems.
You can usually remove the formatting once you have pasted the material in, but it is sometimes a bit of a hassle to do this. As someone has already said, the solution is simply to use Paste Special instead of Paste. Backtrack if necessary using Ctrl+Z and then use Ctrl+Shift+V instead of Ctrl+V to complete the paste, selecting "Unformatted text" from the options provided. Then add the formatting you require.
