Is this normal - or is there a setting that needs to be made to provide
a more autonomous startup of Open Office?
After downloading OpenOffice, you have to install it, by double clicking
on the downloaded file. The install process will take you through
several panels. When it has completed, there should be an OpenOffice
folder and icons in your Start menu. Use those icons to start the
various OpenOffice components.
