Mike,
Many thanks for your suggestions... I finally ran out of patience, and
considering the fact that I had to upgrade, I went ahead, and removed the
existing installation (2.3.0) of OOo, and installed the latest version of OOo
(2.3.1). That cleared the problem, although I really do not know why it did
occur.

Just so that this would get archived, and others could benefit by this
experience, here is what I did:
a. As Mike suggested, moved the ~./.openoffice* subdirectory to a different
location and used my own id - did not work
b. Tried using another ID - no help either
c. Checked the MD5 sum of a backed up version (from circa mid Dec 07) with
the MD5 sums of the OOo binaries. They were the same.
d. REMOVED (yum erase'd) OOo, and reinstalled it. No improvement.
e. Tore my hair out, and kicked the cat - did no good either to my hair, or
to OOo. The cat did not like it either.
f. Removed the existing 2.3.0 of OOo and installed 2.3.1 of OOo. Works like
a charm (my foot and scalp hurt, though!)
