This is listed as a public forum yet you put a person through as many
hoops as Windows does, and one is still no nearer getting to ask a
question. Even 2 days after registration, I am still not allowed to
participate. I have ubunu, openoffice, no manual, nothing in the help
index. Your club seems to be keeping its answers close to the vest,
seemingly no outsiders allowed.
Because you are not subscribed to this mailing list, you may be missing
answers to any questions you have asked -- or is this your first
"question"? Anyway, registration is a totally separate process from this
list, which is the main method of getting help from others who use
OpenOffice.org (OOo). For more about using the OOo lists, please see
http://www.openoffice.org/mail_list.html. How did you get OOo? Was it
part of your Ubuntu installation? Ordinarily, there's a significant
amount of built-in Help information, including a fairly long index. If
you don't have this, it may be a problem with the Ubuntu distribution,
and others here can help you with resolving that -- particularly if you
supply the information about which Ubuntu version and which OOo version
you are using. There is also *lots* of documentation available; for
example, see http://documentation.openoffice.org
<http://documentation.openoffice.org/> and http://openoffice.blogs.com.
Windows (the operating system) and Microsoft Office (the office suite to
which OOo most directly compares) certainly put you through one very
significant "hoop" that OOo does not -- the one where you have to supply
money (for the products and often for any support). At any rate, as you
can see, you have successfully sent a message and received at least one
response.
