Ok, so I am brand new to even looking at Open Office, but my brother in-law is very convincing. To complicate matters I've had my new iMac (Leopard v. 10.5.2) for about a month (long time windows user).

So I downloaded the aqua version of OO (I understand that's a "pre- release" version and will have some issues). As I understood it, I don't have to download the x11 (honestly, I'm not even sure that is or what it means).

After the download completed, I copied it to my Applications folder. When I launch the application, the splash screen comes and the progress indicator seems to proceed normally. However, when I go to start a new document (word process and spreadsheet), it thinks about it for a moment and then it comes up with an error message the the program crashed.

I willing to guess that I've probably missed some simple and painfully obvious step that makes the whole thing work perfectly.

Any help and/or suggestions are GREATLY appreciated.

Thank you.

Tim
