Your problem may just be that you have yet to find how to configure
OpenOffice according to your preferences.
Mozilla Firefox supports this reverse mode, and Thunderbird
half-supports this mode. All Microsoft products support this reverse mode.

There is.
o Go to Tools | Options... | OpenOffice.org | Appearance | Custom colors.
o For "Document background" select your blue.
o For "Font color" select your white.
Note that this changes the screen display colours but does not affect
how your document is printed. Do not be confused that Page Preview
seems to suggest otherwise.

You are very welcome to use commercial software if you prefer, of
course. Meanwhile, millions will prefer OpenOffice.
