Dear Sirs,
The reply to my questions was quite helpful. Knowing the difference
between disk space and RAM is of significant value to me. I can't count how
many times my kids have told me I need more memory on my computer, but no one
ever specified how to acqurie it!,or even what "memory" I needed more of. LOL.
My computer suffered an attack of spyware last December and I was able to
restore it to original manufacturer status using the backup without help.
Then, another issue arose which my DSL company diagnosed as a virus, but I had
tried to download an enhancement software from them, which did not configure
and although they denied it was theirs, I later came across it again and sure
enough, there it was. At that time I was instructed to reload the origial
software received with my computer. That is when I lost the my "Office by
Sun" product which I'd been using since 2004. I'm very pleased to have the
opportunity to use OpenOffice.org, and even more pleased by the assistance
provided by tyou. I hope I never stop learning. I'm 60 years old. My
computer is four years old and I'm lucky it is still running as well as it is.
Thank you for your help!
Sincerely,
A. Strickland

To Whom It May Concern:Every program in your suite is excellent. However, I am

on the D drive? Therefore, I thought I'd ask if I could just download Writerf
and Impress until I can aford more RAM. The worst you can say is
No."Sincerely,, Anna
No. You need to download the whole thing. In theory you can then install only
the components (Writer, Impress, Calc, ...) you need but it's not recommended.
The amount of RAM isn't really the issue unless you insist on doing many things
at once and even then lack of RAM will only slow you down assuming you have
enough disc space. When you run, say Writer, it does not also load Calc or
Impress although any component may use pieces of other components depending on
exactly what you do.Ahh sorry, I just re-read your message. RAM isn't the same
as disk space. You can easily install OpenOffice on your D drive. When you run
the installer you'll eventually be asked if you want to do a complete or a
custom installaion. Choose custom. You'll then get a screen that, in the top
part, asks whichcomponents you want to install (don't tinker) and, in the
bottom part, lets you change the "path" where you want the software to be
installed; that's what you need to do. Just change the "C:\" at the beginning
to "D:\" (that whole thing - "d:\program files\openoffice\....." is called a
path). if you are asked if you want to create a "directory", say yes.
"Directory" is another word for "folder".Please excuse me if I've been over
detailed. I do not intend to be condescending, just to make sure you understand
so that all goes smoothly.-- Harold FuchsLondon, EnglandPlease reply *only* to
