AFAIK the OpenOffice.org developers have a load of other priorities, so an integrated email client isn't for tomorrow. It's easy to send OOo documents from within the program with your default email client. There are several open source email clients that you can install on your computer for free: Thunderbird (from Mozilla), SeaMonkey (browser+composer+mailclient, also Mozilla), and the same Mozilla group is also working on an open source version of good old Eudora (under the name Penelope).
