I have two computers, using Window XP Home Edition operating
system. I have had Open Office software installed on one
computer for over a year and it operates great. I have tried
installing Open Office software on the second computer a couple
of different times and it will not install correctly.
I installed Norton 360 on both computers today and thought I
would try downloading and installing Open Office on the 2nd
computer again. It downloaded fine, but when I tried to install
the software I got the following message--
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
NSIS Error
The installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete.
This could be the result of a damaged dis, a failer download or
a virus.
You may want to contact the author of this installer to obtain a
new copy.
It may be possible to skip this check using the /NCRC common
line switch ( NOT RECOMMENDED )
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
This is almost cedrtainly caused by either your Antivirus (AV) software or
your firewall believing the installer is a virus. To overcome it please
try:
1. Disconnect your computer completely from the internet (pull the
modem/router plug from the phone socket).
2. Disable your firewall and AV software.
3. Run the installer; you won't be able to register as you have no
internet
connection - just say "already registered".
4. Enable your AV and firewall
5. Connect to the internet; never leave your computer connected to the net
if your AV and firewall are not both running properly.
If this still doesn't work, come back here with details and we'll have
another think.
The idea above is a good one, but here is another solution.
DO NOT USE NORTON
Every time I buy a computer with a Norton software, I have
a lot of trouble wth the system. Every Time.
I use AVG antivirus and ZoneAlarm firewall -- both free.
I never tell people to run a system without the antivirus
running. You never know what nasties might be on
your computer. ALSO make sure XP's firewall
is turned off whenever you run some other firewall.
That is another problem sometimes.
My advice is Install AVG -- http://free.grisoft.com
and then disable/turn off Nortons. At that point
install OpenOffice.org. I think before you go back
to Norton's software, you give AVG a try. If you have
the Norton's disk, uninstall it for a while.
I would try ZoneAlarm for the Firewall as well.

Last Time I checked
Both of these software rated higher that Norton's
antivirus and firewall options.
I have used both of these software for many years
including Win 98, Win 2000 pro, XP/home, and XP/pro.
I have is currently installed on the last 3 O/Ss and
OOo on those same machines. Always works great
for me.
Also, if you think that your copy of OOo is bad,
try downloading it from a different mirror site.
The Idea of a backup computer is a great one.
I have a "file server" machine that I make sure
has all of the software and data backups on it.
I use a laptop for my main computer, so there
is always a risk of something going wrong,
like dropping it.
Also one other piece of advice
Never buy a software package, if you can find
an equal or better one for free.
OpenOffice.org instead of MS Office
AVG instead of most paid/free antivirus ones - no charge for updates ever.
ZoneAlarm instead of most paid/free firewall software
I always go first for the free software, and then if
I cannot find what I need, then I look at the paid ones.
99% of the time I find free one that work better.
