Did you (a) turn on Numlock *and* (b) enter the digits from the
numeric keypad? It only works if you do both those things.
That did it. On a notebook, there's no separate number pad, so I
rarely use it.
On many (most?) notebooks the "numeric keypad" is represented by a set
of keys with the numbers and mathematical symbols engraved on their
front (bevelled) edges. You activate them by turning on Numlock. But
it's a pest because you lose the keys' normal functionality. On some
notebooks the engraving is in blue indicating that you can achieve the
values with the Fn button.
