I just tried. It doesn't seem to exhibit the behavior I want, e.g., applying the resulting style to footnote text increases the size of the text to body size.
Surely there must be a way to create a character style that says "modify only these few attributes of whatever you are applied to. Leave everything else unchanged." For example, I may want to highlight text in red I want to review later. The straightforward way to do that is to create a "Red" character style that does nothing but change the color of characters. How can I do that?
