Ermmm, the latest is 2.4; if you have found a 2.6 it's not the genuine
article. Go to www.openoffice.org for the real thing. If you just made a
typo, apologies.
Any 2.x version will overwrite an earlier 2.y version but will leave
alone an earlier 1.z version. That's on Windows. Not sure about
Linux/Mac/...
