Well partially. It actually doesn't remove the old
/opt/openoffice.org2.3 directory in it's entirety. Instead it leaves the
primary directory and share directory so that you can manually copy over
any gallery items (including templates) that may not have been copied
over during the installation of the newer version.

Note: your messages would be a little less confusing if you put the
following as  .sig file rather than as text in your message. Preceed the
following using --<space>
