Incidentally, Windows Live (formerly MS Passport), which people are encouraged to use for lots of different types of web sites (including e.g., banking sites) is even worse that the OOo site. Windows Live passwords can't include spaces or exceed 16 characters. Which sort of tells you everything you need to know about Microsoft's true feeling about security.

Then what does OpenOffice’s password policy tell you about OpenOffice’s true feelings about security?

Neither tells you anything about their feelings about security.

In both systems you can stick in an underbar or hyphen or period instead of a space.

Note: this is not a forum set up to discuss security or passwords in general. None of this is related to OpenOffice.org products.
