I am finishing a book manuscript. The publisher wants to pages
numbered consecutively. That proved no problem for the first three
chapters. I inserted a footer, then inserted a field, namely page
number, then went to Format>Paragraph>Text Flow and inserted the
desired page number for the first page of the chapter.
But Chapter 4 is being difficult. I insert the footer, insert
field>page number, but the footer instead of "1" displays "106", or
sometimes "24." If I insert the desired page number, save the
chapter and reopen it the page number is 106 ( or 24).
How can I resolve this?
You don't give any hint as to what the page number should be, so it
is a little difficult to help. What would the significance of 106
and 24 be in your document? What page number are you expecting?
Instead of using Format | Paragraph, try this. Put the cursor
directly *before* the page number field on the rogue page and go to
Edit | Fields... (or right-click | Fields...). Experiment with the
value for Offset there. It probably ought to be zero. You may have
to undo what you have done at Format | Paragraph, of course.
I trust this helps.
