You could try the AltKeyHandler macro from:
http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/hillview/OOo
which enables you to assign keyboard shortcuts for any character(s) and
also for other things if you wish. I find it very useful for accented
characters, mathematical symbols etc.
Installation instructions for OOo 2.0+ are in a separate document on the
site.
