Open Writer, click Tools | AutoCorrect. Decide what you want to type when you want the "N-Dashes"; put that in Replace box, then put what you want it replaced with in With. Click New I think it is, to add it, & OK your way out.
>From now on whenever it sees whatever you entered in Replace, it'll change it to what you wanted.
