I inserted a table into a Writer text document to assist with the formatting of a form I am creating. When I had finished creating the form I wanted to adjust the row height to make it easier for a user of the form to fill it in with a pen or pencil - ie I wanted to make the row height bigger.

I tried two methods:

1. Select rows > Right click > Row > Height
2. Table > Autofit > Row height

Either way, I ended up with a pop-up dialogue box which said the row height was 0.01cm (clearly wrong!) and the "Fit to size" box was ticked.

Not clearly wrong. My understanding is the "Fit to size" means that it will adjust to whatever the largest font size is specified in the row. Or if you have a cell with two or more lines of text, it will expand to fit.

I have since made some sense of setting row heights. It seems if you set heights of 1 cm or greater then you seem to get what you asked for.

I am still unsure why the dialogue box says the row height is 0.01cm when you first open it?

I would also like to know why, if you untick the "Fit to size" box, your table collapses into something resembling a thick black line (about 2-3mm high/thick)?

That's because it then really does become 0.01 cm, and doesn't fit to size.

It seems that manipulating Row height in a table inserted into a Writer document is nothing like doing the same thing in Calc, and I would appreciate any help in understanding this dialogue box.

One way that works for me is to click and drag on the bottom line of the row you want to increase.

Many thanks, James
