I can sympathize... I had the same issues with my son a few years ago. Others have advised you to save the file as an MS Word file, here is how you can set this to the default[1]. In OpenOffice.org: Tools|Options|Load/Save|General|Default file format Under "Document type" and "Always save as" you will find drop down choices, set these to: Document type Always save as Text Document Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP Spreadsheet Microsoft Excel 97/2000/XP Presentation Microsoft PowerPoint 97/2000/XP Now, click on "Microsoft Office" (left panel) and check all boxes under [L] and [S] You don't even have to close and reopen OpenOffice.org for the changes to take effect, they will do so immediately. Note of caution: you may encounter some differences in complicated documents/presentations in using this method, as OpenOffice always saves best to it's native format. However, for the most part the above should work just fine. While most folks on this list (myself included) would prefer that you use the OpenOffice.org formats, the fact of the matter is that you, and your daughter, will eventually forget to save the school document, spreadsheet, or presentation in MS Office format and end up with the same problem. The above will set your defaults to always save in MS Office format, you can then select other formats (OpenOffice.org ODF) if/when you wish. -- Note: You have been cc'd on this reply as you have posted to an OpenOffice.org (OOo) mailing list.
